How to switch to a new pet food
Switching to a new food step by step over 7–10 days: how much to mix each day, and when to see the vet.
Cats’ and dogs’ digestion is sensitive to sudden changes. Mix the new food with the old one and switch gradually.
Day by day
- Days 1–3: 75% old, 25% new
- Days 4–6: half and half
- Days 7–9: 25% old, 75% new
- Day 10: new food only
What to watch for
Soft stools can be normal in the first days; if diarrhoea, vomiting or loss of appetite lasts more than two days, stop and consult your vet.
Single-protein foods make the switch easier for pets with sensitive stomachs.
